We currently have an opportunity for a Manufacturing and Engineering Director at our headquarters in Lake Forest, IL.

 

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Manufacturing and Engineering Director will be responsible for the program direction in the development, design, planning and execution of new products, product enhancements and cost reduction projects for the organization. The individual will proactively drive the innovation and technology agenda within manufacturing facilities.

 The Manufacturing and Engineering Director will be responsible for:

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Partners with the senior management teams within Innovation to establish short and long-term product line strategic goals.
  • Coordinates staff activities to assure that work is properly budgeted, scheduled and completed in a timely manner. Coordinates activities with engineering staff to identify equipment needs for product development and full scale manufacturing of products.
  • Executes new products from concept and test stage through production rollout to include identification of processing equipment, writing of specification and training of appropriate people. Investigates new technologies for product and/or process improvements.
  • Reviews and evaluates projects to completion and makes appropriate recommendation to management. Coordinates staff activities to assure work is properly budgeted, scheduled an completed in a timely manner.
  • Evaluates and explores new technology application including testing with universities, suppliers and other research organization.
  • Ensure that proper intercommunication between R&D, Marketing, Supply Chain and Sales is achieved to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Directs the development and approves product and process specifications for manufacturing.
  • Provides technical consultation and directs technical investigation into problem areas to reduce product failures, improve costs and improve quality.
  • Directs the appropriate testing of products, data and reports toward approval of modification products.
  • Participates in development of the department Annual Operating Plan and Long Range Plan and assists in managing the department budget. Approves department expenditures for equipment, supplies, test products and materials.
  • In locations where applicable, responsible to comply with the SQF and GMP practices and programs to ensure safe food packaging product and to report food safety problems to those with authority to take action.  

Job Requirements

 To be considered for the Manufacturing and Engineering Director opporutnity, candidates should possess:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • BA/BS degree in Engineering or related field.
  • MBA or other advanced degree a plus.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of related professional and progressive Engineering experience.
  • 2+ years prior team management experience combined with a proven track record of developing, coaching and mentoring a diverse and workforce.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Proficient in SAP.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills and the ability to communicate and influence at all levels within the organization.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple accountabilities and multiple internal customers.
  • Strong analytical skills as well as organizational skills.
  • A commitment to excellence and continuous improvement with experience in various Continuous improvement Processes and initiatives (i.e. 5S, Value Streams, Six Sigma, TPM)
  • Solid project management capabilities with the ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously from origin through execution.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule during key business deadlines.
  • Must be team oriented with the ability to work on high collaboration and performance teams.
